Plain Language, Like Everything Else Here

Privacy

Political interest is sensitive information. Here is exactly what this site collects and what happens to it.

What we collect, and why

The site's forms (signup, volunteer, endorsement, corrections, and drafter access) collect what you type into them: typically a name, an email address, and for some forms a state or interest area. That is the entire purpose: to send you updates you asked for, follow up on a volunteer or endorsement offer, or respond to a correction. Reading the site requires no account and collects no form data.

Where it lives, and for how long

Form submissions are stored by Netlify, the platform that hosts this site (hosted in the United States), and are visible to the project's maintainers. Submissions are kept only while relevant to their purpose and are periodically purged; deletion requests are honored ahead of that schedule. The site runs no advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies. The model-bill drafter is currently offline; when it operates, it enforces its usage limits with a short-lived, anonymized counter keyed to a hashed request origin, and draft requests are processed by Anthropic's Claude API to generate the text and, per Anthropic's API data policy, are not used to train their models. This site does not store your prompts or compile them into profiles.

What we will not do

Your information is not sold, rented, or shared with campaigns, PACs, data brokers, or partner organizations. It is not used for ad targeting. Emails from the project come only if you signed up, and every one includes a way to stop them.

Your control

The data controller for this site is the project's founder-editor (see About, including the note on the withheld name), reachable directly at the address below. To see, correct, or delete what we hold about you, use the contact form and say so, or email contact@american-mainspring-project.org; deletion requests are honored, and either route is the privacy contact for questions or complaints. If a breach ever exposes form data, we will notify affected people at the email they provided and post a notice on this page. This site is intended for adults: if you are under 18, read freely, but do not submit the forms.

This page is written in plain language on purpose. If practices change, this page changes first, and the change is noted on the Corrections page.
