The Unfinished Agenda

The gaps still to close

Every gap between here and the end state, what closes it, and the signal that proves it is closing.

Stalled bill 11 White space 23 Defend it 3 Reverse it 2

Under development, so silence is not read as avoidance: the platform now carries evidence-argued positions on reproductive rights, firearms, homelessness, veterans, disability rights, student debt and post-secondary education, AI governance, surveillance and privacy, cybersecurity, localized food systems, farm and agriculture policy, waste and producer responsibility, LGBTQ+ civil rights, drug policy and cannabis, and macroeconomic doctrine, each in its brief. Still genuinely under development: trade and industrial strategy beyond the current planks, a fuller tribal-sovereignty agenda beyond the partnership rules in the new-places brief, and force posture beyond the resilience doctrine. Each will get the same treatment, evidence first, or an honest statement of why not. See something missing? Submit it.

How to read this page

What this is. This is the platform's gap analysis, now filed under the end states rather than left as a loose list. For each pillar it names the gaps between where we are and where we are going, and for each gap it answers two questions: what closes it, and how we would know it is closing. Nothing floats. Every gap points up at an end state and down at an action and a signal.

The four kinds of gap. Each gap is tagged by the kind of fight it is, because they are not closed the same way. [Stalled bill] means the text exists and the work is winning the votes. [White space] means no serious bill exists yet and the work is writing and championing one. [Defend it] means it is already law and the work is blocking repeal. [Reverse it] means harmful law is on the books and the work is undoing it.

Human-Centered Democracy and Equal Representation

Read the Pillar 1 brief →

End state. A democracy easy to participate in, hard to corrupt, and able to deliver.

Signal Small-donor share of campaign money rising.

02

A Government That Works

Read the Pillar 2 brief →

Signal Time to deliver services and permits falling; backlogs falling.

03

The Foundations of a Dignified Life

Read the Pillar 3 brief →

End state. Everyone has the floor a free life requires, and the deepest barriers get the deepest investment.

The end state is universal, comprehensive, affordable care - Medicare for All the clearest path - but there is no vehicle for it yet, and even the Swiss-style bridge and the subsidy patch keep stalling.

Stalled bill make the enhanced ACA subsidies permanent now (the Health Care Affordability Act), stand up the Swiss-style universal bridge (mandatory, community-rated, subsidized coverage), and set the path toward public, comprehensive coverage such as Medicare for All.

Signal Continuous coverage rising toward universal, comprehensive, affordable care.

The care economy, childcare, paid leave, and long-term care, is named but unprovided.

Signal Below-Basic shares and chronic absenteeism falling.

The household food security survey, the nation’s hunger measurement, is being ended just as the deepest SNAP cuts in history take effect.

04

Build Enough, Build Well

Read the Pillar 4 brief →

White space federal incentives paired with state and local legalization of the missing middle (mostly a state and local fight).

The corporate-landlord fix stops short: the law that passed caps but does not phase out institutional ownership.

Stalled bill the End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act, which goes further than the ROAD to Housing Act.

Public and social housing at scale is essentially absent from the federal conversation.

Signal U.S. methane emissions falling.

06

Innovation With Public Return

Read the Pillar 6 brief →

End state. The public shares in the value it helps create, and innovation augments people.

White space fee-and-dividend legislation anchored to the EPA damage estimates, alongside the methane fee and grid cost-causation.

Signal Share of emissions carrying a real price rising; household dividends flowing.

The national scoreboard still counts pollution damage and drawn-down natural assets as growth, and counts $1 trillion of unpaid care at zero.

Defend it, then build funding and codifying the 2023 natural capital accounting strategy and publishing a beyond-GDP dashboard alongside GDP.

Signal BEA natural capital accounts published on schedule; dashboard released with the quarterly numbers.

08

Humane Safety, Justice, and Immigration

Read the Pillar 8 brief →

End state. Safety that reduces harm and earns legitimacy; immigration that is lawful, fast, and humane.

10

Democratic Security in a Changing World

Read the Pillar 10 brief →
